Set to begin what will no doubt be a productive touring slate for Texas death metal unit Frozen Soul, the band has submitted their frigid take on a White Zombie classic. Tasked with keeping the integrity of the song while amplifying the brutality of the track, Frozen Soul managed to pay homage to one of the greats, while expanding their repertoire with a 90's heater.
Revisiting White Zombie's seminal 1995 full length Astro-Creep: 2000, Frozen Soul took on "Creature of the Wheel" in a way that paid respect to the band, while keep it ferociously frosty in the Frozen Soul way.
The band spoke about the decision to mesh the two worlds and how they saw the opportunity as a challenge that would pay dividends for them. "We wanted to cover a song outside of death metal that we could give justice to in our style and 'Creature of the Wheel' felt perfect," the band says.
"We slowed it down and made it even heavier, all the while staying true to the groove White Zombie is known for. We got outside of our comfort zone and even used a theremin to add that old school horror feel!"
The cover of the White Zombie essential lands just days before the band begins their highly-anticipated trek on the Metal Crushes All Tour. Supporting a legendary line-up topped by Amon Amarth, along with death metal royalty including Cannibal Corpse and Obituary, the run is undoubtedly one of the most hyped of the season.
Frozen Soul continues to turn heads and assert their rank as new blood among death metal's elite. The band delivered their 2023 LP, Glacial Domination, to universal acclaim. Co-produced by Trivium vocalist/guitarist Matthew K. Heafy and Daniel Schmuck, the effort has since propelled Frozen Soul to the head of their prospective class, establishing the band as one of the most exciting, emerging name in the genre.
