Gatecreeper Make Crushing Return With "Caught In the Treads"

Gatecreeper Make Crushing Return With "Caught In the Treads"

- By Ramon Gonzales

The track marks the band's first reveal of new music since 2021's An Unexpected Reality.

Death metal outliers Gatecreeper have made their long-awaited return with the reveal of their first showing of new music since their celebrated 2021 release, An Unexpected Reality.

"Caught In the Treads" emphasizes the band's hard-hitting, carefully calculated attack with frontman Chase Mason asserting his prowess as one of the genre's most commanding on the mic. Produced by the incomparable Kurt Ballou of Converge, the cut underscores Gatecreeper's classic pedigree of heft, while asserting the next wave of American death metal.

Speaking to the imaginative theme of the single, Chase Mason explained not only the narrative of the song, but the kind of resourcefulness they used to piece together the accompanying music video. "Lyrically the song is about a supernaturally charged fleet of tanks that have been possessed by the souls of fallen soldiers. It's about revenge and crushing your enemies."

Mason continued, "As soon as we finished recording, we started sneaking this song into our live set. We brought along our own VHS camera and had our friends film the shows where they could."

Gatecreeper is set to begin a domestic US run supporting Swedish melodic metal masters In Flames this spring. Next month, the band will be out for global support dates with death metal icons Suffocation as well as their own headlining dates in the UK and Australia. See the complete list of dates below.
