Marking the end of a historic run for the classic line-up of rock heavy heroes Godsmack, the band recently celebrated the May 1st arrival of a landmark live album, Live at the Mohegan Sun. The album preserved the band's final performance of the classic line-up consisting of frontman Sully Erna, guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robbie Merrill and drummer Shannon Larkin - as both Larkin and Rombola have since retired from their post.
The sold-out October 26, 2024 performance held court at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, marking an important homecoming and final victory lap for a collective that has been positioned at the top of hard rock's hierarchy for some three decades. The career-spanning performance included an arsenal of the band's most enduring hits including “Voodoo,” "Awake," “Cryin’ Like a Bitch!!," and the band's closer, “Whatever,” which proved triumphant as the core four shared a lasting moment among the band and the fans.
For the latest offering from the live album, Godsmack have shared a new clip that honors the drum solo portion of the live set - a tradition that has become an integral part of the live Godsmack experience.
Frontman Sully Erna explained the significance of the latest clip for "Battle of the Drums" and detailed how tradition and spectacle made this showing especially meaningful. “It’s an intricate piece. Me and Shannon have worked on it for decades and really perfected it into a spectacle.” He continues, “Live at Mohegan Sun captures a moment we’ll always carry with us—the energy, the connection, and the gratitude we feel for the fans who’ve taken this journey with us. Releasing this album as we launch the Rise of Rock World Tour feels powerful. It honors where we’ve been while pushing us forward into what’s next.”
The arrival of Live at the Mohegan Sun lands as the current era of Godsmack gets underway on The Rise of Rock World tour with Stone Temple Pilots and Dorothy. The extended live run begins May 10th in Bristow, VA and will include several festival dates with appearances at Welcome to Rockville, Sonic Temple, as well as a slate of European festival dates.
Godsmack then return stateside to headline the 20th anniversary of Rocklahoma in Pryor, Oklahoma, before resuming the U.S. leg of their comprehensive live stretch.
