Enlisting Kane Churko whose resume includes luminaries like Ozzy Osbourne, Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch, along with renowned composer, producer and musician Tyler Bates, In This Moment sourced the right personnel – and even included a special guest assist from Ice Nine Kills’ Spencer Charnas – in what has the makings of a landmark release for the band.
Along with the confirmation of the new album, In This Moment have debuted the introductory single from the project with the powerful preview of “The Purge”. The band’s punchy rock heavy sound, combined with vocalist Maria Brink’s commanding prowess out front underscore a band nearly two decades in and still very much at the top of their game.
The track is coupled with a masterfully crafted clip directed by Jensen Noen who has previously worked with Ice Nine Kills, Falling In Reverse, Hollywood Undead. See the spectacular visual below.
Speaking on the news of the latest album and the first sample, Maria Brink expressed her gratitude to those that helped see the project to fruition and spoke to the symbolism of the single.
“We are thrilled to unveil ‘The Purge’ to everyone. I am so grateful for how everything flowed to bring this song to life, both sonically and visually. Kane Churko and Jensen Noen helped to create this musical & cinematic experience with us and we could not have done it without them. The underlying message of the song is to not fall too deeply into the rabbit hole, everything is about finding balance. I had a lot of emotions building within me when I approached the song for the first time and after years of holding it all in I finally got to let it out! Enjoy.”
In This Moment guitarist Chris Howorth further detailed how the single originated for the band and how they knew they had something special from the very beginning. “This song came from our time in lockdown. We all had our own personal experiences during the pandemic, and we all saw the social unrest unfolding daily tearing us apart, it was such a crazy time. Our band, like everything else, was stopped in its tracks.
During the lockdown I was sending Maria musical ideas I was working on, and this one really resonated with her. She even said, ‘This is gonna be our first single’. Fast forward a couple years and all the pent-up frustration and angst came pouring out in Maria’s lyrics and performance, creating this crazy visceral song.”
