The internet has worked its magic and brought together a pair of formative creative forces with the arrival of Kid Bookie's newest single, "Rose McGowan". After sharing brief snippets of the track during it's infancy online, Bookie managed to connect with multi-hyphenate Rose McGowan with the two striking up an artistic kinship.
From there, Bookie further fleshed out the track and would eventually secure McGown to loan her talents to the track. The result, yet another emphatic show of musical versatility from one of rock music's most dynamic, contemporary contributors.
“In music culture, using a person’s name of relevance as a title track seems to be a prospect that garners attention or a marketing move to turn heads,” says Bookie. “I enjoy being the antithesis of what people do and wanted to bring light to a special name, Rose McGowan.
Bookie went onto explain his creative connection with McGowan, "In history, I feel linear to people who have had to destroy and rebuild—not just themselves but the industries we were created in—to make things flow in different ways. Rose was a muse in that regard. I wanted to make a song about someone who isn’t just a buzzword for attention but who deserves to be highlighted as a potential beacon of changing the world to a large or small degree.”
Bookie went onto explain how his M.O. continues to be about defying expectation, “We must follow the trail of the mavericks, the transgressors, because being too safe in an industry that prides itself on rebellion and using art to change the world. What better way than to highlight someone of the zeitgeist who did that, for their people and those who feel aligned with the dismantling of the industry bullshit. Salute to the fucking world.”
Sharing her take on the collaboration, Rose McGowan elaborated on the merit she instantly saw in Bookie, ultimately leading the two to come together creatively. "I chose KID BOOKIE because the moment I heard him, I knew our collaboration would be electric,” said Rose. “His DM to me in 2024 was direct and real, but hearing the track sealed it. His ability to go from melody to a full-throttle roar over a propulsive beat had purpose and fire.
McGowan discussed taking the project from idea to execution, "After years of silence, I arrived in South London with no lyrics and no idea if creativity was still in me. In the studio, I tore a page from an engineer’s manual and wrote my first lyrics in six years. BOOKIE called it ‘Rose McGowan ft. Rose McGowan.' It was an honour that he named the track after the essence of me before I’d even written a word. BOOKIEreached across an ocean. I reached back. The rest is this track; this cultural moment. I hope it resonates with all those needing a release with a dose of ascension. I’m mad for it."
The latest single from Kid Bookie and Rose McGowan begins the next sequence for Bookie who is currently working on the follow-up to his acclaimed 2024 full length, Songs for the Living // Songs for the Dead.
