The new track precedes the band’s upcoming tour supporting Nothing.Nowhere along with Static Dress and UnityTX.
San Diego post-hardcore prospects SeeYouSpaceCowboy have shared an ambitious new track with the arrival of “Chewing the Scenery” – a first glimpse of the band’s next iteration following the traction of their 2021 Isaac Hale-prodced full length, The Romance of Affliction.
The track arrives via Pure Noise Records and was produced by Matt Squire whose resume includes the lies of Underoath, SUM 41 and The Used to name a few. Speaking on the genesis of the single and how it offers an indication of band’s progression, frontwoman Connie Sgarbossa shared, “This is one of the first songs we wrote when we locked ourselves in a Cabin in the Poconos to figure out what we wanted to do with the sound of SYSC moving forward.”
Sgarbossa elaborated, “Somehow me saying I wanted a Waltz part in a song turned into this expansion of the chaotic post hardcore sound we had done on The Romance of Affliction but with sprinkles of new “brighter” elements we wanted to sprinkle into the new songs that we were making. This track served as a proof of concept for the beginning of playing around with whatever we wanted to and showed us that we can push without the confines of genre and style and still create something that sounded cohesive.”
As for the lyrical significance of the song, Sgarbossa revealed the narrative that develops in the stanzas. “Lyrically this song reflects the melodrama and conflict of relationships but recontextualized as a theatrical play you are putting on for the world. It deals with the debate about whether love can be just bliss and happiness, or if you have to acknowledge and accept the pain and frustration that can and most likely will accompany it, as well as dealing with that realization.”
The emphatic single arrives as SeeYouSpaceCowboy prep to begin an extensive fall tour supporting Nothing. Nowhere. The run begins next month and includes festival plays at both Louder Than Life and Aftershock. See a complete list of dates and cities below.
