Tribal metal trailblazers Soulfly have announced their mighty return with the news of their 13th full length album, Chama. The release follow the band's 2022 LP, Totem, and further cements the Cavalera family legacy as father Max joins forces with sons Zyon and Igor Amadeus along guitarist Mike De Leon for the band's landmark 13th full length studio effort.
Chama was produced by Zyon Cavalera and longtime friend and collaborator, Arthur Rizk. Along with the existing Soulfly personnel, the album also features a guest feature from veteran guitarist Dino Cazares of Fear Factory. The release is due out October 24th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Speaking to the ethos of the record, Max Cavalera explained what is in a name and why this album is about transforming the band's creative spark into somehting more. "'Chama' is the Brazilian word for flame. It also means a 'calling'. Respect to Alex Pereira for using Itsari on his UFC walkouts. Chama is inspired by the energy of this moment. This record is the sound of Soulfly’s fire! I cannot wait to play these songs live for the Tribe! Chama!"
Drummer and producer Zyon Cavalera discussed his perspective on the project and reflected on his evolving role within the band. “With each Soulfly record I’ve played on, I can feel my evolution happening in real time. This record was no different as I got to handle a good amount of the production for the first time. Trying to take the band to places we have never been before was a blast and I look forward to more production work in the future!”
With the news of the fall release, Soulfly has officially begin their next campaign with the drop of the lead single, "Storm the Gates". Brandishing the Soulfly sound, tribal drums, aggressive guitars and that definitive Cavalera battle cry make for a return to form that will no doubt fire up the fans.
