Chef, media personality and recent Emmy-winning producer of The Bear Matty Matheson is proving to be a true jack of all trades. In addition to his empire that now spans restaurants, television shows, book deals and even his own work wear brand in Rosa Rugosa, the multi-hyphenate has now unveiled his latest passion project and one that has long been near and dear to his heart, hardcore.
To bring everyone up to speed, Matheson has a long established history in heavy music. During the late 90s and early 2000's Matheson frequented shows in the various, interconnected hardcore scenes in upstate New York, Pennsylvania and Ontario. Reconnecting with his hardlore roots, Matheson has announced his latest endeavor, fronting a passion project band dubbed, Pig Pen. He announced the project via his social media platform and confirmed that the band consisted of longtime friends and veterans of the scene including Wade McNeil of Alexisonfire/Gallows, Daniel and Ian Romano of Attack in Black and Tommy Major.
Matheson announced, “A FEW OLD FRIENDS GOT TOGETHER A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND WROTE AND RECORDED 10 SONGS OVER 2 DAYS,” Matheson writes on Instagram, where he announced the project. “WE JUST WANTED TO HANGOUT AND SEE WHAT’S UP. THIS IS OUR BAND. WE ARE PIGPEN.”
The band is set to make their live debut April 25th along with Best Wishes and Pluto's Kiss in Toronto. While the band has yet to debut music, a preview can be seen below along with the band's official introduction.
