Punk stalwarts Sum 41 have made it official and have confirmed the March 29th, 2024 release of their final album in the double LP, Heaven :x: Hell. The news follows this year's earlier preview with the pop-punk anthem, Landmines.
Coupled with the news of the pending album release, Sum 41 has also offered a glimpse into the ambitious scope of the project. The double LP will showcase the duality of the band. Heaven boasts 10 tracks that embrace the band's pop-punk prowess, while Hell leans into Sum 41's heavier pedigree and their metallic songwriting sensibilities.
Offering an example of that, Sum 41 have debuted the second single from Heaven :x: Hell with the unveiling of "Rise Up". Paired with a wild new music video that includes a killer cameo from Noodles of The Offspring. The clip revels in the band's love of metal complete with a mosh pit at 35,000 feet and a scorching guitar solo from Dave Brownsound that soars in more ways that one.
Speaking on the release of the single, frontman Deryck Whibley confided, Writing 'Rise Up,' I felt the way I did when I first got signed. I felt the pressure and the need to create something great, but I felt so excited at the same time."
As for the swan song of the double album, Whibley alsp added how he felt this was the best way to close out such a storied run with Sum 41 after nearly three decades of critical and commercial successes. “Once I heard the music, I was confident enough to say, ‘This is the record I’d like to go out on.’ We’ve made a double album of pop punk and metal, and it makes sense. It took a long time for us to pave this lane for ourselves, but we did, and it’s unique to us.”
