Recently celebrating their seventh full length release, tech death collective Allegaeon continues to assert their dominance in the space with another powerful offering from their most recent Metal Blade Records presentation. 

The Ossuary Lens serves as the follow-up to 2022's Damnum and marks the return of Allegaeon's original vocalist, Ezra Hayes. The last album to feature Haynes at the helm was Elements Of The Infinite - The following year, Haynes would exit the band.

Currently wrapping up The Vortex of Violence tour with support from Warbringer, Skeletal Remains, Summoning The Lich, Allegaeon has shared another music video from The Ossuary Lens - this time showcasing a slower tempo, though no less gargantuan sound with the single, "Wake Circling Above". 

Guitarist Michael Stancel explained the standout track and it's deliberately different presence on the album. “So, one day in our group chat, Ezra [Haynes] was like, ‘Michael, I want something slow and heavy,’ and I was like, ‘DONE.’ 

I used a lot of inspiration from bands like Dimmu Borgir and Septicflesh to try and build these massive orchestral sections that set the tone as well as some noisy ‘ear candy’ sounds to add more dimension. This is probably the most different song on the record but still has all the ALLEGAEON-isms you’d want.”

As for the cohesiveness of the album conceptually, vocalist Ezra Haynes explained how the theme of death is core to the execution of the sound and the style points of the songs. “Each song is a different topic, however there’s always a different perspective of death tied in. Since the entire album revolves around this overarching theme of death, and the different viewpoints associated with it, we found ourselves very attached to the word ‘Ossuary,’ and since the album takes a look at death through different points of view, we found The Ossuary Lens to be very fitting for the album title.”
