Swedish greats The Haunted have announced their long awaited return with the news of their first full length in nearly a decade. Last surfacing in 2017 with Strength in Numbers, the melodic metal titans have been sharpening their steel for their next studio onslaught, Songs of Last Resort.
The album is due out May 30th via Century Media Records and touts an impressive, accomplished roster of Swedish heavyweights as overseeing personnel. Among the names attached to the project include producer and Soilwork frontman Björn “Speed” Strid as well as Jens Bogren (Behemoth, Opeth) overseeing the final mix and mastering.
Along with the announcement of the new album, The Haunted have shared the first single from the full length with a hostile, heavy-hitting introduction, "Warhead". Showcasing the band signature breakneck speed and precision riffage, the track marks an auspicious start to the new campaign and asserts a powerful reminder of just how forceful The Haunted remain decades into their tenure.
Guitarist Patrik Jensen explained how "Warhead" served as an important catalyst in galvanizing the band to press ahead.
“When writing this song, I knew that we were on to writing a good album. The main riff came to me at work, and I had to take the afternoon off that day to immediately get it recorded and worked on while the inspiration from this one riff was still creating goosebumps. Lyrics are about various people in charge being “war heads”, thriving in one way or another off of waging war."
Jensen continued, "The intro sound fx were created together with Örjan Örnkloo (ex-Misery Loves Company, who also performs on ‘To Bleed Out’ and the title track ‘Letters of Last Resort’). I think it’s not a stretch to say that this song stand a real chance of becoming a fixture of our live set for many years to come…”
