The move comes less than a week after Cj McMahon was fired from the band.
Less than a week removed from the turbulent release of their album, Godlike, Thy Art Is Murder have revealed their mystery vocalist that is now assuming the responsibilities since the departure of CJ McMahon.
Last week, the band surprisingly opted to stay on schedule and release the pending album with one very significant change. The band re-recorded the entirety of the album’s vocal parts with a then, unspecified vocalist, scrapping all of CJ McMahon’s portion of the project.
In a statement released explaining the bold move, the band detailed a contentious relationship with McMahon apart from the divisive comments he recently made online regarding stemming from a social media exchange that was widely seen as transphobic. While the frontman did issue an apology, his defiant stance that included “quitting” social media and opting to stick to OnlyFans fell short with fans and apparently the band.
The incident happened as the band was in the thick of promotion for their next full length album, Godlike. Coincidentally, the band had to push back the release date, citing production issues, but have now revealed there was obvious movement in the works since the controversy boiled over.
The statement from the band regarding the shift in personnel read,
“We understand that this may come as a surprise and we want to assure you that this decision was made to preserve the band’s integrity and direction.
What transpired over the past month was not the cause of this action, but just another symptom of the drawn out breakdown in his character and judgement. The straw that broke the camels back if you will long story short the fallout has been immense.
We were lobbed with threats to destroy Thy Art Is Murder from the inside if we did not capitulate to various ideologies that he holds. Everyone has their own right to free speech and to seek their truth; they are also free to receive the consequences that come with it.”
Kicking off their Godlike album release tour in Europe with the likes of Whitechapel, Fit For An Autopsy and Spite joining the caravan, Thy Art Is Murder revealed who their mystery vocalist live onstage. Wile fans had already voiced their suspicions online, it was confirmed that Tyler Miller of Aussie tech death unit Aversions Crown was joining the ranks.
