The tandem of Sara Taylor and Ryan George as Youth Code have confirmed the pending release of a new EP, Yours, With Malice, set to land May 19th. The announcement signals the duo's first showing of new music in more than four years, following their collaborative release with King Yosef with 2021's, A Skeleton Key in the Doors of Depression.
Along with the news of the next phase of for Youth Code, the pair have shared the first portion of their presentation with the a bulldozing first single, "No Consequence". Combining a hefty electronic throb along with menacing synth and a commanding vocal performance from Taylor, the track is a hard-hitting reminder of Youth Code's mesh of intricacy and intensity.
The release serves as Youth Code's introduction on Sumerian Records. The shift to a new label along with a reignited creative spark offered the perfect convergence of circumstances for the team to make their long-awaited return.
Ryan George discussed the timeline of the last four years and how Youth Code were persistent with their craft and patient when it came to the execution. “I think a lot of people’s stories during the pandemic were about self-reflection, but the ironic thing is we were already in a state of reemergence and re-imagination of self before the rest of the world was forced to do it."
George continued, “We took time and began to workshop and demo vocals on some of the material we had. We never stop writing and are sitting on a mountain of tracks that we can rework and tweak. Not having deadlines surrounding us and in no hurry to get our material out there, all of a sudden the partnership with Sumerian arrived. That sort of ignited a fire and got us to where we are now.”
Combining the duo's hardcore pedigree with their deeply-rooted connection to synth and EBM, Youth Code's cross-section of styles is what has contributed to their potency for more than a decade. With a catalog that boasts essential releases including 2014's A Place to Stand, 2016's Commitment to Complications and the previously mention 2021 collab opposite King Yosef, Youth Code remain one of heavy music's most effective and innovative contributors.
