Setting out on their first extended run of tour dates in nearly a decade, the incomparable AC/DC took to the historic grounds of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for the Southern California stop of the North American Power Up Tour.
Adding to the list of the legendary performances hosted at the Bowl, AC/DC joined the ranks of U2, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones to become the latest in rock royalty to hold court at the storied venue in Pasadena.
Triumphantly opening with "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)", the iconic Angus Young charged across the stage in defiance of time - reminding the stadium-sized sea of fans why AC/DC remain some of the best to ever do it. Roping in modern era entries like "Demon Time" and "Shot In the Dark" with the band's ageless anthems like "Thunderstuck" and "Shoot to Thrill," the band covered decades with of rock music mastery that prompted exhilaration throughout the Bowl.
While the tandem of Brian Johnson and Angus Young understandably remain the focus, the ensemble cast of Stevie Young on rhythm guitar, Matt Laug on drums and Chris Chaney on bass.created the kind of sturdy, in-sync rhythm section well suited for AC/DC's locomotive steady sound. Cuts like "Riff Raff," "Hells Bells" and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" proved still slick and especially sturdy with Laug, Chaney and Stevie on working in such sync.
Of course no AC/DC show would be complete without Angus ripping one of his signature solos. Closing out their set with "Let There Be Rock," Angus owned the spotlight and collectively dropped the jaws of a capacity stadium. It should also be mentioned that Young celebrated his 70th birthday just last month.
Giving the fans a proper encore, AC/DC capped their stage time with two of rock music's most definitive selections. With plenty of fists pumping in the air, "T.N.T." was the rallying cry that brought the Rose Bowl back their feet. Followed by "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" which proved pure ritual for both the band and the fans alike.
Over the course of 21 songs, AC/DC offered testament that gold, does not rust. See the gallery of images from celebrated photographer Steve Rose on behalf of Live Nation LA.
