Castle Rat Arrives As Fearless Defenders of Fantasy Doom

A Frank Frazetta piece come to life, the Brooklyn collective presided over a sold out crowd inside the Anaheim House of Blues.

Sorcery and spectacle resulted in a sold out splendor as fantasy metal standouts Castle Rat showcased their majesty in front of a capacity crowd inside the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA.

The band's meteoric ascent as one of heavy music's most enchanting, enthralling forces, was backed by the prestige of not only supporting Amon Amarth and Dethklok as part of the Amonklok North American Conquest, but being able to take on their own headlining dates concurrently.

Trekking in support of their widely-acclaimed, universally-hailed 2025 LP, The Bestiary, The Rat Queen, Riley Pinkerton delivered the kind of showing that suggests her reign has the makings of a true heavy metal dynasty - filled with pageantry and and true fantasy metal power.

Curating a set that offered a balanced collection of selections from both The Bestiary and the band's 2024 full length introduction, Into the Realm, Castle Rat's combination of mystique and metallic durability was reiterated as each song shook the room. From "Dagger Dragger" to the breakout anthem of "WIZARD," the sonics in tandem with the visual extravaganza resonated as immersive, adding to its being wildly imaginative.

Among the night's highlights, deeper cuts like "WOLF I" and the huge vocal melodies the filled the room on "DRAGON" emphasized the kind of musical precision that substantiates Castle Rat as something so much more than theatric. Even the band's musical interlude in "PATH OF MOSS" underscored the kind of transcendent universe that comes to life not only through the band's dramatics, but in the built in-narrative of even their instrumental compositions.

Finishing especially strong, the band's epic battle track in "SERPENT" saw the the unsheathing of steel onstage as the band's first act came to a powerful conclusion. Setting the stage for a final showdown, Castle Rat returned for a thrilling climax that included the lament of "Cry For Me" and the percussive thunder of "SIREN" - a combination that worked well in pointing to the band's broad range and true songwriting prowess.
