Currently crusading on their 50th anniversary Run For Your Lives World tour, Iron Maiden's two-night Los Angeles engagement was expected to deliver fireworks - but the end result with something more much substantial. Presiding over the pitch at BMO Stadium, the congregation that welcome Maiden was comprised of a broad stretch of generations - fans both new and veteran turned up ready to participate in communion with one of metal's most iconic units. 

And while five decades would suggest a performance less about live spectacle and more about legacy, Iron Maiden have defied time with the kind of onstage horsepower conducive to stadium-sized electricity. Emerging onstage with "The Ides of March," Maiden set the bar with an opening rendition of "Murders In the Rue Morgue" that felt spiritual.

Leading from the altar of NWOBH, Maiden's setlist framed the band's foundational first nine albums from 1980's Iron Maiden to 1992's Fear of the Dark. The specially curated set emphasized the classic quality of entries like "Powerslave,""Wrathchild" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" with every selection prompting the entirety of BMO to erupt. 

The most affirming moments of the night were the instances of collective head-banging, fist-pumping and voice-lifting as band's most devoted became Bruce Dickinson's supporting choir on essentials like "2 Minutes to Midnight" and the forever anthem, "Run to The Hills". Completing the first act with a trifecta that included "The Trooper," "Hallowed By Thy Name" and the eponymous "Iron Maiden," it was clear that nostalgia was a non-factor. This was heavy metal grander in all its glory - still very much powerful, very much relevant. 

Iron Maiden saved some of their most effective arsenal for the encore. Returning to the stage with "Aces High" the faithful at BMO were back at pandemonium as Steve Harris stalked the stage while Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers traded riffs with rapid fire. Closing out with "Fear of the Dark" and the quintessential headbanger "Wasted Years," Bruce Dickinson lead a victory lap that rallied an entire stadium and reaffirmed that Iron Maiden trukly is forever.
