Punctuating the first week of the comprehensive Destroy All Enemies tour, thrash icons Megadeth showcased a commanding presentation of power and precision for their Los Angeles stop. Compiling a thorough set list that played out like a collection of greatest hits, the band managed to work in entries from their most recent album, The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead! for a full show that felt seamless.
Among the highlights on the night, Megadeth worked in a rendition of "Liar" from '88's So Far, So Good... So What! LP - a cut the band hadn't delivered lived in nearly two decades.
It makes sense however that most effective selections of the night were among Megadeth's most timeless. Classics like "Countdown to Extinction", "Hangar 18" and "Symphony of Destruction" still proved to be the kind of live spectacle that land like a knockout punch, without fail.
Mustaine and the crew would give fans not one, but two encores, saving the heavy hitters of "Peace Sells" and the opus of "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" as the evening's most dramatic show of force. Living up to the title of tour, Megadeth's live barrage lay waste to everything in its path.
Special guests Mudvayne wasted little time in rallying the YouTube Theater during their all killer, no filler live set. Opting to open with "Dig", the band set a high bar for the night and ensured that every subsequent selection ratcheted up the intensity.
Going back-to-back with haymakers like "Not Falling" followed by "Internal Primates Forever" topped with "Nothing To Gein" landed effectively with the fans. Asserting a real command of the crowd, Mudvayne would reel in the room with a powerful play of "World So Cold" followed by an explosive version of "Happy?" that capped their time emphatically.
Opening the night's ceremonies, All That Remains have asserted they are back in fine form. Making wise use of their limited time, the band worked in their latest entries with "Divine" and "Let You Go" both making the cut. However, the band's most enduring works like "Six", "Now Let Them Tremble" and the closer, "Two Weeks" were among their best - scoring points with the most punctual of fans and providing a promising start what would be a electrifying evening.
