Heavy music powerhouse Spiritbox began the second leg of their Tsunami Sea North American tour with a commanding set that took over the Toyota Arena in Ontario, just east of Los Angeles last week. Showcasing selections from their universally acclaimed LP, Tsunami Sea, the band's dazzling combination of production spectacle and performative chops underscored precisely why Spirtbox has become one of the most formative forces in modern metal.
Beginning the first act of their live ceremony, Spiritbox executed a sequential track-by-track wallop that emphasized the magnitude of Tsunami Sea. From "Fata Morgana" to the live debut of Keep Sweet" to the dramatic title track, the band established an effective command over the arena with each entry sending the room in to a frenzy.
Progressing further back into their catalog as the set played out, selections from both The Fear of Fear EP as well as essentials from the breakout LP, Eternal Blue better articulated just how dominant Spiritbox has been in recent years. From "Jaded" and "The Void" to "Circle With Me" and the track that arguably started it all in "Holy Roller," the band's comprehensive setlist served well in not only affirming the fans in the arena, but emphasize the kind of consistency has propelled Spiititbox to such great heights.
From Tsunami Sea, The Fear of Fear, Rotoscope, Eternal Blue and back again, Spiritbox ran the court with a dominant performance that substantiated the rank as arena-worthy.
Completing the luminous 16-track showcase, Tsunami Sea standouts in "No Loss, No Love" and "Crystal Roses" better built up the climactic finale with the mammoth "Ride the Wave" closing the show. In much the same way the seas can shift from calm waters to serious squalls, the tandem of Mike Stringer and Courtney Laplante assert the kind of live command and performative prowess that truly makes Spiritbox live among the very best in the game.
