Last year, two of heavy music's most enduring and influential outfits in Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine unveiled plans to join forces for The Poisoned Ascendency Tour. The extensive international run with dates throughout 2025 marked the 20th anniversary of both bands' lauded full length debut studio albums, Ascendency and The Poison respectively.
In celebration of the two-decade milestone, both bands are revisiting the electricity of their debut releases, performing each in full for every night of the run. Kicking off the campaign with a successful UK leg of the tour, the tandem dazzled capacity houses in Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and concluding the UK stretch with a triumphant evening at London's O2 Arena.
Back on North American soil, The Poisoned Ascendency offers a decisive reminder of not only how impactful the early 2000's was to the landscape of metal - but also how well the songs from two decades ago still hold up from both Trivium and Bullet.
Following a similar format in compiling their set lists, both Trivium and Bullet roared through their beloved full length albums, accomplishing what many try and fail to do - capture the same energy that was unleashed initially. Some two decades deep, the songs from both Ascendency and The Poison managed to ring contemporary. While there was an element of nostalgia in the celebration of the tour, the performance and the longevity of the songs translated as something modern, fresh, now.
Properly closing out their time, both Trivium and Bullet played to the fans, reemerging onstage for encore showings that featured some of their most enduring hits. For Trivium, the colossal "In Waves" offered the perfect farewell. For Bullet, the tandem of "Knives" and "Waking the Demon" sealed what was already an epic showing.
