Marking the live return of one of the most enduring heavy bands of the last generation, The Psychotherapy Sessions saw the first headlining tour for Mudvayne in well over a decade. The confirmation of the summer run sparked excitement among fans and capitalized on the momentum the band generated following the successful run opposite Rob Zombie for the inaugural Freaks On Parade run in 2022.

Adding to the significance of the monumental trek, Mudvayne enlisted pioneering goth metal aggressors Coal Chamber for the band’s first extended live outing since their brief reunion in 2015. The pairing offered fans the opportunity to see two of the most influential outfits from heavy music’s late 90’s/ early 2000’s boom, showcase the enduring quality of their respective catalogs and their undeniable longevity underscored by a mammoth live set.

Asserting the shelf life of their brand, Mudvayne put on a clinic of nu-era aggression with required listening from the turn of Y2K. Unloading a 13-track set that included essentials from their five album catalog, Mudvayne reminded fans of their undiminished intensity with bangers like “Internal Primates Forever,” “Death Blooms” and nu-metal’s mandatory, “Dig”.

Tracks from The End of All Things to Come and Lost and Found proved equally effective as favorites like “World So Cold” and “Not Falling” along with “Determined” and “Happy?” delivered an impressive payoff.

Goth metal OGs Coal Chamber understood the assignment and compiled a comprehensive set that touched on each period of their influential tenure. Sourcing selections from their 1997 self-titled debut, 2002’s timelessly turbulent Dark Days and even their 2015 resurfacing in Rivals, Coal Chamber fired off with the efficiency of a band that never stepped away.

Bookending their time with an two of their most revelrous entries, “Loco” set a powerful precedent while “Sway” punctuated the live return of one of metal’s most innovative, forever intense units.

Augmenting the celebratory atmosphere of Psychotherapy Sessions Tour, supporting sets from intergalactic horde GWAR along with metallic mainstays in Nonpoint and Butcher Babies sweetened the pot for the most punctual of fans. Submitting high-energy, wholly convincing sets, all three made efficient use of their stage time, delivering additional highlights on what had the makings of an unforgettable evening.
