The phenomenon of Turnstile continues to impact the greater culture of not just hardcore, but guitar-driven rock music as a whole. No further evidence needed than the band's Los Angeles stop of their highly-anticipated Never Enough Tour.
Taking over Exposition Park in the heart of Los Angeles, the sold out event drew some 13,000-plus wildly excited fans for an evening of celebration in the form of human connection. Likely their most evident effect on the culture, the pandemonium that comes requisite with a Turnstile show coursed through the field, resulting in a sea of humanity crashing and cascading over each other all in celebration of Never Enough
Opening with the album's title track, the entirety of the field at Exposition Park were instantly reaffirmed - this was their band and tonight was their shared moment. Turnstile's brand of aggression is one that is communal and triumphant - it's that sentiment that seemed to fuel the night as songs from Never Enough, Glow On and even earlier entries from Time & Space and Nonstop Feeling ignited the crowd.
Saving some of the band's most anthemic choices for the last stretch of the set, "SEEIN' STARS" and "HOLIDAY" were tempered by " LOOK OUT FOR ME" offering a brief, poignant moment of pause. Asserting a controlled ebb and flow of energy as masters of ceremony, Turnstile sent the field into a frenzy unloading the finale with the trio of "MYSTERY," "BLACKOUT" and "BIRDS" walking off the stage victorious.
Turnstile and their campaign of Never Enough has been seismic, with generational implications. The Los Angeles tour stop offered a profound example of just how transformative the band is and how their take on hardcore reiterates inclusivity, individuality and artistic integrity.
