Texas-bred outfit Bleed taps into 90's era nostalgic heft on "Killing Time"

- By Ramon Gonzales

The track serves as the first delicvery of new music since the band's praised debut EP, 'Somebody's Closer'

It's almost unfathomable to think that a four-song EP could be so fruitful, but for Dallas natives Bleed, their 2021 debut in Somebody's Closer has served well in putting the emerging band on the map.

Sourcing the era of post-grunge, even flirting with the execution of nu-metal (without indulging the cheese), Bleed harken the heft of bands like early Deftones, Nonpoint and Dry Kill Logic with a skilled mesh of sonic bombast and metallic groove. Punctuated by the shoegaze vocal lather of guitarist/vocalist Ryan Hughes, the thin catalog of the band seems at odds with a collective that has already proven to gel so well on record.

Currently in the thick of the recording process on what will be the band's forthcoming full length debut, "Killing Time" serves as the band's first preview of their next chapter. Hughes explained how the track was not only the first song the band wrote together following the release of their EP, but also detailed how the completion ultimately opened the creative floodgates, prompting the band to flesh out new ideas and material in it's wake.

"'Killing Time' is the first song we wrote for the new record. Since its inception a collection of others have been generated while working towards a full-scale representation of the band at its core. With the LP writing process almost complete, we felt compelled to produce a sampling to segue into the record, before being able to settle into the full recording process. 'Killing Time' is a good representation of what to expect. We’ve taken our formula and simply pushed the envelope, hoping to produce something that truly captures the feeling we’re putting into it."

Enlisting veteran artist and longtime Deftones collaborator Frank Maddocks to helm the project's artwork, the arrival of "Killing Time" begins the countdown to the eventual debut of Bleed's full-length set to release via 20 Buck Spin in 2023. The band is currently prepping to hit the road with Narrow Head and Temple Of Angels on a two week North American tour. Get a full list of dates below.
