In an era where the musical landscape constantly shifts, melding and evolving, Riikira’s World Gone stands as a testament to the beauty of electronic experimentation. This album is a riveting journey through the corners of nu metal punctuated electronic soundscapes, driven by emotion and innovation.

Riikira is the alter ego of a producers General Mumble and Koa that have been kicking around for around 12 years now, and this is their first foray into metal, and what a wild ride it is! The eighth alias under the Mumble Etc. label Riikira is an amphibious, anthropomorphic canine/jellyfish hybrid. Fast-paced and all vocals are sung through her electronic voice box, as the story goes.

Right off the bat, the production quality of World Gone is top-tier. Each track boasts a crystal clear sound where each layer is discernible, yet they merge seamlessly to form a cohesive sonic narrative. The album thrives on diversity, employing a mix of synthesized sounds, distorted samples, and atmospheric pads. What’s fascinating is Riikira’s ability to take these elements and craft tracks that range from the frenetic to the serene. This isn’t just electronic metal—it’s an experience.

Musical influences range from nu metal to digital hardcore, metalcore, electronic rock and alternative metal, with the odd thrashy moment thrown in there for good measure. While the album primarily focuses on its instrumental strengths, the sporadic lyrics sprinkled throughout are evocative. While on the surface the project is upbeat and fun, there’s an odd melancholy that permeates the project, reminiscent of the feelings evoked by a world in flux.

Whether you’re a die-hard electronica-metal fan or a casual listener, “World Gone” offers a rich and immersive experience that’s not to be missed. Bust out your rainbow LEDs and get ready for your next LAN party with this weird technicolor odyssey.

World Gone was released on June 6th, 2023 and can be found HERE.
