Full of Hell and Nothing Join Forces for Joint LP, 'When No Birds Sang'

- By Ramon Gonzales

Experience the towering wall of sound showcased on the first single, "Spend the Grace".

Heavy music outliers Full of Hell and Nothing have long been creative kindred spirits, but have now made it official with the announcement of a new joint LP, When No Birds Sang. The collaborative project is set to launch December 1st via Closed Casket Activities.

The ensemble of Full of Hell's Dylan Walker [vocals], Spencer Hazard [guitar], Dave Bland [drums], and Sam DiGristine [bass] along with Nothing’s Domenic “Nicky” Palermo [vocals, guitar] and Doyle Martin [vocals, guitar] have forged a connection as a result of sharing stages together over the last decade.

Among the commonalities, both bands have thrived in the margin, becoming synonymous with coloring outside the lines musically. Combining Full of Hell’s discordant brand of brutality and Nothing’s meld of weighty shoegaze, the combination is a wall of sound that positions the tandem as a dominant presence.

“Both Full of Hell and Nothing deal with the same genre-phobia,” laughs Nicky. “We’ve been called any style you can think of, but we’re both simply intent on making soul crushers.”

“We’re beyond limiting ourselves to a genre,” agrees Dylan. “There aren’t any rules, but there’s clearly an identity. No matter what Nothing does, I can tell it’s them. We’re meeting in the middle where it’s lush and beautiful, but also sad and ugly if you look closely at it. Out of mutual respect, we just decided to go for it.”

To better introduce the project, Full of Hell and Nothing have debuted the initial single, "Spend the Grace". A track tha veers from atmospheric to assaultive, the collision of styles further underscores the wall of sound that makes the bands' union so brilliant and long overdue.

“We’ve never done anything like this,” Nicky goes on. “The contrast is huge as we’re putting two extremes together and making them work. We’re just bridging the gap.”

Palermo added how the composition of the single is indicative of the process of the album as a whole.  “We put the song together as we went through this experience,” recalls Nicky. “The whole record built itself as it moved.”

When No Birds Sang will be released December 1st, 2023 via Closed Casket Activities. Order the album - HERE
