Having previewed their next chapter last month with the unveiling of "Caught In the Treads" - desert destructors Gatecreeper offered testament to the influence of the Swedish sound in heavy music with their own ferocious take. Now, the band have confirmed their long-awaited full length, Dark Superstition, their first release via Nuclear Blast Records and the eagerly-awaited third album.
The news marks the first release studio release since the band's heralded 2021 EP An Unexpected Reality - a surprise effort that included zero fan fare, and asserted the dynamic range of the band covering the spectrum extreme music.
Enlisting elite level personnel to oversee the assembly of the songs on the album, Gatecreeper tapped the likes of Kurt Ballou of Converge and Fred Estby of the legendary Dismember to loan their expertise to the effort. Asserting their adaptive ability as songwriters and metal craftsman, Dark Superstition embraces themes of the metaphysical and mystical, while framing the breadth the band's musical brutality.
Frontman Chase H. Mason offered some insight on the thematic depth of the album and how that permeates in the collection of compositions. “Many of the songs incorporate supernatural ideas with my own experiences,” Mason says. “But the title itself is a reference to the Superstition Mountains in our home state of Arizona. It’s a beautiful mountain range surrounded by tragedy and legends of hidden fortune.”
Paired with the news of the album launch, the band have shared another offering with the single, "The Black Curtain". The rock-leaning cut showcases Gatecreeper's distilled version of heft, refined from a varied collection of timeless influences and modernized with flawless execution. The track comes packaged with a compelling video from director Max Moore.
Dark Superstition is set to arrive May 17th via Nuclear Blast Records. The album is available for pre-order - HERE
