What began as a handful of live appearances over the last couple of years, including a highlight set at the inaugural, sold out Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas, has resulted in the return of one of metal's most celebrated stalwarts.
Marking 25 years since the release of their lauded studio debut, Spit, Canadian trailblazers Kittie have officially confirmed their next era, announcing their signing to Sumerian Records and debuting their first showing of new music in well over a decade. Working with accomplished producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Korn), "Eyes Wide Open" serves as the first new entry from Kittie in 13 years.
Speaking on the gravity of the single, Kittie frontwoman Morgan Lander shared how the single galvanized the band creatively, "Our first new material in 13 years, 'Eyes Wide Open' is a vision quest for truth. It is a torch lit in the darkness of ignorance to reveal one’s true motives. 'Eyes Wide Open' is a lesson in trust, betrayal, and ultimately the ability to see behind the curtain to reveal all. It was one of the first songs we wrote, coming together again after a long time away from creating, and I think you can really hear the fires reigniting in this track."
Combining the band's progression as tenured songwriters with the preserving the integrity of their sound, "Eyes Wide Open" showcases the modernity of Kittie, while still giving the day one fans the intensity that has always been the band's signature. Coupled with gripping new music video, the theme of revelation is actualized in the clip, framing the band's journey of creative discovery en route back to their lofty rank among metal's elite.
As the first release under the Sumerian Records banner, Lander also spoke about the excitement the band share in turning the page of their next chapter with such a important ally. "Sometimes, incredible opportunities present themselves in surprising ways. Just a few years ago we could have never imagined we would be getting ready to release new music as Kittie. We’ve been given what feels like a second life and are grateful to Ash and the Sumerian family for believing in us."
