YUNGBLUD Goes Glitchpop With Oli Sykes of Bring Me the Horizon on "Happier"

- By Ramon Gonzales

The two will join forces live fof a stretch of international tour dates later this month.

Pop outlier YUNGBLUD continues what has been a pivotal year with the debut of third single in 2023 - presumably saving the most impactful for last. Having garnered acclaim with previous sensations like "Lowlife" and "Hated", the new era of the popstar's continued meteoric rise has gotten a bit of a lift from a familiar collaborator.

Back in 2020, YUNGBLUD and Oli Sykes of Bring Me the Horizon teamed up on for the colossal collab in "Obey" which would become a favorite that resonated with both collective's respective fanbases. Given the massive success of the track, it only made sense that the dup reattempt to capture that same lighting in a bottle.

The result is YUGBLUD's latest in "Happier" - an infectious glitchpop anthem that showcases quirky, dynamic production combined with the melodic substance that has become synonymous with the still-ascending star. Combined with the prowess of the ever-engaging Oli Sykes, the tandem once again find magic.

The track arrives as both Bring Me the Horizon and YUNGBLUD prep for a shared slate of Asia, before YUNGBLUD ventures off on his own for a succession of headlining plays in the region.

Speaking on the themes of the single, YUNGBLUD shared how adversity has always been conducive to connecting with his creativity. I have almost been conditioned by myself my whole life to be in pain. When I’m in pain I work better. I function better because I have something to combat. It’s dark but it’s all I’ve ever known."

He further explained the personal weight of the track, "The feeling of happiness is scary because you feel like it’s all about to go wrong. I have always felt that if I’m happy I’ll get complacent so it’s lost me a lot of opportunity for friendships and relationships in the past. I got really emotional when writing this. I was craving another Yungblud song that would burn in my stomach, make me feel like it’s all gonna be ok and encourage me to fight back against old habits and try my best to re-align myself to be better. It’s ok to find happiness, it’s ok to feel it. I hope you find a little bit of it in this song. You deserve it. Everyone does.”
