Making a massive live introduction with a run of tour dates supporting Lamb of God and Mastodon on the Ashes of the Leviathan last summer tour, as well as several highlight festival appearances and a European headlining trek, Kerry King has reiterated to a new generation just why he is revered.
The iconic guitarist concluded his North American headlining tour in support of his lauded solo debut, From Hell I Rise. Backed by an all-star roster of players, King's band, consisting of drummer Paul Bostaph, bassist Kyle Sanders of HELLYEAH, guitarist Phil Demmel of Machine Head and vocalist Mark Osegueda of the mighty Death Angel lay waste to The Fonda Theater in Los Angeles over the weekend, shredding through entries from the debut solo album that have already become fan favorites.
Compiling the kind of set that was intended to floor the fans from start to finish, the set list was all turbo-charged with no dip in the explosiveness that King has become King's MO. Solo essentials like ""Where I Reign" and "Idle Hands" drew a huge pop from the capacity theater, while renditions of classics from Iron Maiden and a cache of Slayer classics for good measure, turned the floor into a frenzy.
Combined with the energy and aggression of party thrash vets Municipal Waste and Maori groove metal standouts Alien Weaponry executing electric opening sets, Kerry King's return to Los Angeles showcased arena-sized spectacle with the intensity of much more intimate confines, making for a truly impressive show of thrash music muscle.
