Disturbed are clearly on a gallop as their close out their commemorative 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album, The Sickness. On the final stretch of a 34-date North American jaunt, the veteran collective sought out to revisit the magnitude of the game-changing album with a complete, sequential performance of the 12-song presentation.
While the endeavor skewed toward the nostalgia of the Y2K-era, the end result was a statement of Disturbed's continued relevance and a commanding assertion of the enduring spirit and musical conviction that first vaulted Disturbed to superstardom a generation ago.
Presiding over a capacity crowd at the Kia Forum of Inglewood, the band began the formalities with a video montage that properly set the table for the spectacle to come. Once the audience was fully primed, the band barreled into album in sequence - opting to stay true to the album experience even though it meant unleashing some of the biggest entries early in the set.
Within the first third of the album play, Disturbed would unload arena-sized renditions of essentials like "Stupify" and what would normally be the coup de grace in "Down With the Sickness" - wasting little time in getting down to business and showing the kind of confidence it takes to burn a hit so early during the set.
Fans were also reminded of The depth of The Sickness as some the less ubiquitous favorites like "Fear" and the band's take of the Tears for Fears classic "Shout" landed with the same effect as the obvious hits. Concluding with "Meaning of Life" that included a tip of the hat to Randy Rhoads, Ozzy Osbourne and their 'Crazy Train", Disturbed would conclude the first portion of their victory lap and could have worked away triumphant... yet still had more.
Compiling a concise cache of hits for a band with a decades with of hits, Disturbed heaved on an additional eight-song super set of singles that ensured fans got their money's worth and then some. From anthems like "Ten Thousand Fists" and the band's lauded covers in "Land of Confusion" from Genesis and Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence", Disturbed left no doubt of their tenure as hard rock's elite.
