The Adicts Assert Pageantry In Punk

The Adicts Assert Pageantry In Punk

- By Ramon Gonzales -->

Revisit the band's sold out set at The Fonda in Los Angeles completing their weeklong run of shows in the Southland.

With many of punk's biggest and most legendary bands out on the West Coast every spring for the annual Punk Rock Bowling excursion in Las Vegas, the itinerary for surrounding headlining punk shows leading up to and following the festival are always something to look forward to.

Specially for The Adicts, immediately following their set at Punk Rock Bowling, the band took on a succession of Southern California shows, culminating with a finale in Los Angeles at The Fonda - an event that was met with a sold out response.

Emerging onstage to hold court among the Droog army, the band made their entrance to the music of Stanley Kubrick's psychological masterpiece, A Clockwork Orange as the room worked up into a frenzy. Opening with "Let's Go," Monkey lead the charge with the kind of flair not typical of a rowdy punk show.

Proving especially memorable on entries like "Joker In the Pack" which compelled the sold out Fonda to singalong at full volume, as well as the confetti shower of "Chinese Takeaway" - there was an element of pageantry that positions The Adicts in a tier all their own. Fan favorites like "Tango" and "Daydreamers Night" further proved just how beloved the band is and for good reason.

Completing their time with the coup de grace of "Viva La Revolution," the atmosphere in the room was that of a celebration. There would be no one that would question the punk DNA of a band like The Adicts, but this proved something much more meaningful than the typical; troupes of the genre. The revolution was revelry and The Adicts proved capable (and certainly dressed) to lead the charge.
